It is the commencement of the SNK broadcast after Face-Off. An unfamiliar music hits across the PA system, which some fans recognize as the opening to "Hollywise" by Blacktop Manhattan. The crowd is confused, as this music accompanies Chris Carlington's usual Titantron graphics. Chris Carlington is, indeed, the man who appears onstage, conspicuously lacking a championship belt, after his loss at the pay-Per-View event. Carlington holds a microphone in his hand, as he walks down the ramp to the ring. He enters the ring, and walks to the centre, raising the microphone to his lips and taking a breath.
Carlington: Hello.
The crowd, having recovered from their confusion, begins booing at this simple statement from their ex-champion.Carlington waits for the crowd to finish booing, then continues.
Carlington: Some of you may have noticed that I am no longer carrying my championship belt. I doubt that very many of you will be wondering why, as I'm sure you all know the reason after watching Face-Off. That reason, as I'm sure you all know, is one man: Lenny Thompson.
The crowd cheers at this mention of one of their favourite superstars on the roster. Carlington waits some more, and as the crowd calms down, raises his microphone to his lips for the third time.
Carlington: Now, I know some of you may be inclined to think that I'm here to badmouth Lenny, or maybe even you. I have been known to do such things in my few out-of-match appearances in the past. Hell, even during my matches. But what I'm really here to say is: Lenny Thompson beat me.
The crowd is very confused at this statement, trying to glean some kind of meaning from what Carlington is saying to them.
Carlington: Lenny Thompson beat me. He knocked me to the ground, and climbed that ladder. He grabbed a hold of that title, and he didn't let go. I gave my best damn effort, and I failed. And this made me think. Ever since Face-Off, I've been thinking. I only stopped thinking, to do three things: eat, sleep, and excrete. And my thinking led me to a conclusion. A conclusion which at first I didn't warm to. But then, after a time, I saw the sense in this conclusion. My conclusion was this: Lenny Thompson won, because of you people.
At this, the crowd begins to cheer, screaming their support for their now champion, Lenny Thompson.
Carlington: And after I reached this conclusion, I made a decision. This was the part it took me awhile to adjust to. And I know that it'll take you people some time to adjust to as well. I need you people. Everyone who has ever made it big in the sports-entertainment industry, has used the support and energy from you at some point. And I realised, that if I ever wanted my title back, I needed you as well. So I have come out here to ask, nay, implore you all to forgive me. And to accept my apology to you.
A few tentative cheers from the crowd, as the majority consider whether to give Carlington the benefit of the doubt here.
Carlington: Now, I know it's going to take you some time to think, and ponder on whether I'm worthy of forgiveness, but I want you all to know that I respect Lenny Thompson, I respect every superstar on this roster, and I respect you fans.
This gains a few more cheers from the crowd, not so tentative, and a few soft chants: "Car-ling-ton! Car-ling-ton!"
Carlington: So, people, I ask you to forgive me, and to help me in my quest to bud a reputation and a legacy in this world! Thank you all very much!
"Hollywise" by Blacktop Manhattan comes back up on the speaker system, as Carlington drops his microphone and returns up the ramp and backstage.
